Passage

The University of Auckland (2017)
Undergraduate Project

The design aims to introduce approximately 10 dwelling units into one of three existing village sites in Schützen am Gebirge, Burgenland, to increase its density.

The primary objective of the brief is to continue the traditional settlement typologies, using them as a foundation for developing alternative strategies to the typical free-standing houses with backyards.

My design concept seeks to extend the traditional progression and rational language of walls and passageways through the elongated site. The passage encourages community interaction and celebrates the village lifestyle.

The "L" shaped layout of the units reflects the historical typologies of Burgenland villages. The overhanging element of the building serves as additional room space for the units and provides intermediate covering for residents.
