Angular Geometry
The University of Auckland (2014)
Undergraduate Project
The angular geometries in this design serve as a thematic process to illustrate how light filters through the building and how inhabitants circulate within the space. The layered structure was a defining factor, enabling the capture of the angular essence of the conceptual drawing.
By incorporating ramps, stairs, and balustrades, the design creates angular circulation both inside and outside the building, facilitating programmatic overlaps and the creation of intermediate social spaces. My proposal for the site includes excavating part of the ground to accommodate overlapping programs.
The programs include a couple operating a web design and painting studio, a foster mother caring for up to ten children at a time, and a family of seven with three teenagers and two grandparents. The building materials feature reinforced concrete, wooden textures, and stained glass, achieving the golden atmosphere envisioned in the conceptual drawing.
